Round 3 of online debates begins next week! Most of the Middle School teams have been busy preparing for their state ELA and Math tests (even though we think that preparing for their next debate is more interesting), so this time around we have some High School teams up first. Good luck on your exams, everyone, and we’ll see you in the debate room! Don’t forget to check the schedule tab above to follow your favorite teams as they get closer to the finals… and those shiny trophies!

From Presidents to Produce to… Video Games?
The local food debate has really made us think about where our food comes from. There are only 3 debates left in the round, so if you haven’t caught a piece of the action, now is the time to tune in and choose which teams you’re backing for this year’s D 75 Debate Championships!
Food Justice
What on earth is food justice, and what does it have to do with our debate topic about local food? Stephen Ritz explains all about it in this TED talk. Check him out.

Happy Holidays and Round 2
Hello D 75 Debaters! Thank you for an incredible first round of debates. Photos from the online debate room will be added soon. In the meantime, it is time to start preparing for the next one! The topic and calendar of round 2 debates is now posted in the schedule tab above. D 75 Debate wishes everyone a happy and restful holiday season. May you return refreshed and ready to debate again!
Wrapping Up Round One
There is only one more week of debates in round one! Almost all of the teams have stepped up to the plate and gotten into the debate flow. If you haven’t caught a debate yet this season, now is the time to tune in and see what the teams are saying. We have heard lots of riveting arguments both for and against changing the electoral college in favor of a popular voting system. I wonder if our elected representatives are listening.
Round 2 begins in mid January. Post your ideas for the new topic in the comments area below. What would YOU like to debate in round two?
The Competition is Getting Hot
It may be getting colder outside, but the D 75 Debates are heating up! Have you checked out the competition?? Here are some screen shots from our first week of debates. Check the schedule tab above to login to support your team!
Ready, Set….. Debate!
D75 Debate visited the brand new team from 811 M last week and got to sit in on their debate practice while they did the “4 corners game.” This is a pic of the team. We think they look ready for the competition, how about you?! Tune in for their debate on Nov 29 against 369 K. It’s the first Brooklyn – Manhattan match-up of the season. Good Luck!
Hurricanes, Elections and Votes
D75 Debate would like to extend its heart to the teachers and students who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Due to the storm, we are rescheduling next week’s debates in order to give the teams time to prepare. Please see the updated calendar in the schedule tab above for the updates.
In other news, the presidential election is TOMORROW! Should we keep the electoral system or ditch it in favor of a popular vote? Watch the election and then watch the teams weigh in beginning Nov 20. Stay safe and warm everybody.
