The first Debate workshop happened on October 8, 2014 at 369K. There was a mix of veterans and newbies with plenty of lively discussion about expectations for the upcoming year.
Last week we sent out a survey about how the debate program went this year. We got 15 responses and the results are here:
If you have not yet responded to the survey, please take a moment and do it using the link we emailed last week.
“The first day of debates was a success.”
“Our students once again blew us away.”
“This is my 5th year as a debate coach and I am always amazed by the level of maturity and intelligence that our students display.”
“….another stellar day of debating.”

The Consolation Debate between 369K and 36K, scheduled for Tuesday June 3, is being changed. The new date is Monday June 9.
I tallied up the results of the last 26 debates and made a pie chart:
Pro won 15 debates.
Con won 10 debates.
(One debate was a forfeit, so there was no coin toss)
Who can figure out what percent the Pro side won and what percent the Con side won? Will this affect what your team will choose in the next debate?
The record for the most participants in an online debate has been broken again! The May 9, 2014 Final Four High School Debate had 20 participants, listing such famous names as “T. Petty,” “J. Joplin,” and “R. Orbison.” Tom, Janice, Roy: Who did you vote for?
Check out the number of participants (moderators, judges, supporters, etc) who watched yesterday’s debate.
So far, this is the largest number of spectators for an online debate. But there are still four more online debates to go, so we will see if we can break the record.
We have added 3rd Place-Honorable Mention debates (also known as Consolation Prize). These are for the teams that do not make it past Final Fours. Check the schedule for topic and dates.
The final (hopefully) revision of the round 3 debate schedule has been posted.
