Final Topic Announced
The final topic of the year has been announced. It is “The president of the United States should be elected by popular vote.”
Debra Newman, host par excellence!
Congratulations to P368K Brooklyn’s Finest Debate team teacher Debra Newman, who made it into the April 6, 2016 edition of The NYC Debate Weekly Newsletter.
Thank you also to the United States District Court at Brooklyn Borough Hall and Coach Debra Newman for hosting the Semifinal and Final Rounds of the Brooklyn Championships. This tournament is for both middle school and high school students and features public forum debate, policy debate and parliamentary debate! Congrats to our Brooklyn Debaters this year who will be representing New York City at both the Tournament of Champions and the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues Championships!

Antonio Vastano, veteran debate teacher from 25R, submitted the Student Debate Contract he uses with his students. You may find it useful as well.
First Workshop Tomorrow
The first Debate workshop is Friday October 9, 2015.
Cara writes:
“Teachers will be introduced to the exciting District 75 online debate program. Workshop will include approaches to collaborative planning and learning incorporating technology and current events. Returning and new debate teachers (ELA, Social Studies, Technology and classroom teachers) are welcome. Participation signifies commitment to the Debate program for the entire school year. The program is targeted towards students in Standardized Assessment, and advanced learners in Alternate Assessment. This PD will specifically support CCLS in speaking and listening.”

Well, it is not quite the Academy Awards, but the D75 Debate Championship trophy is pretty cool!
